In the past several years, crime in Minneapolis has dropped dramatically. With things like “The Blueprint for Action to Prevent Youth Violence” and proactive policing, crime has declined and is being prevented. Violent crime, in particular, has been reduced by double-digits and is at the lowest level in nearly a decade. People are beginning to notice that the city is safe once again.
In part due to those figures, last week Forbes.com ranked Minneapolis as the safest metropolitan area in the country. In having its number one ranking, the area scored in the top 10 in all four categories of the study: low crime rate, workplace fatalities, traffic-related deaths and natural disaster risk. The Forbes.com article profiles a young family choosing to move to Minneapolis and describes the crime rate as “shockingly low”.
While we do still have a long way to go, the title and this honor is most definitely something that residents of Minneapolis can be proud of. View the Forbes.com list of America’s Safest Cities here.
